My 1999 xkr spluttered and stopped last week. I understand that this model has a primary and secondary pump. Jaguar quote £150 each. Does anyone know if there is a cheaper source?

Not noticed one but if you find an alternative, it would be good to share the knowledge. Mike.

Thanks Mike K, even though the post is from 2015 still got the fuel pump at £65. Just need to fit it now!

Still on track to get it back on the road for Classic Le Mans.

It's worth changing both pumps while you're about it. I had both of mine changed when one failed. I didn't do the job myself, but I understand you can get to the pumps via the rear parcel shelf - much easier than removing the petrol tank

I've changed the pumps on my 2001 car and it was far from easy to do with the tank in situ! You'd need to be double jointed and have eyes on stalks! I found it easier in the end to take the tank out (which is straight forward apart from undoing the "quick release" fuel connectors from underneath). This gave me the chance to flush the accumulated detritus from the tank too.

Have already removed the parcel cover and have access - very tight and as you said you double jointed. Will try this way first when the new pump arrives.

It's the secondary pump that is used for starting the engine, and also for augmenting the the A pump when Wide Open Throttle conditions are used.

So if it starts but won’t run the secondary pump will be okay?
How would you check it is not just the relay?

I wouldn't know the answer to that question Bruce. A code reader may identify whether the relay has failed though.

Relays are notoriously difficult to check other than by substitution. Mike.

Would it not then be wiser to replace the relays before replacing the pumps?

With supercharged models running two pumps and two relays, it's possible either to swap relays or 'borrow' one from another working function to test them. Mike.

That is what I would do when the time comes. However the OP is replacing his pump with no mention of checking relays and has been advised by others to change both pumps while he is at it! How red will his face be if it is only a relay that has stopped working?
