Rear quarter light window sticking

Postby XK8Dundee » Thu Apr 10, 2014 9:03 pm

The drivers side rear quarter light window on my 2003 XK8 does not come up all the way, I have to pull it the last 1/2" or so to make a tight seal. Is there any where that needs lubricating to assist it? Is it easy to get at and how much trim needs removing.

Cheers.

I don`t know this model well but it strikes me that any sticking might be caused by dry rubber window channel seals. AA little lubrication with rubber grease of Vasaline may help if it is not a mechanical issue.

Many window glasses are attached to clamp type units which are linked to the operating motor. The clamp grips the glass transmitting up or down movement when you operate the appropriate switch. A through bolt on the clamp allows the clamp to be tightened or slackened. It is not unknown for a clamp to loose its grip on the glass allowing the glass to drop in the clamp. Perhaps that has occurred? Rectification may require the removal of local trim where upon the clamps could be slackened off and the glass repositioned allowing it to fully reach its fully up position.

Hopefully someone with a fuller experience of your car will be able to confirm the above or some other reason for this problem.

I would pray that lubricating the 1/4 window mechanism will be sufficient to restore normal operations. Replacing the entire mechanism is a major task which requires removal of the hood! Access to the guts of the mechanism is achieved by: removing the seat squab and cushion; removing the rear 1/4 capping (fastner to B post plus three screws); remove seat belt; release two clips from B post and two dowels from seat squab panel. Then, you should be able to inspect and lubricate the window mechanism. Mike.
