Drivers door adjustment advice

Hi all,
Does anyone have any advice on adjusting the drivers door of a 99 XKR? Mine appears to have dropped slightly and on closing is catching on the door locking mechanism.

Hi Steve,

Unless the catch has been disturbed for some reason, I'd start by testing the door hinges to see why the door no longer closes properly. Grasp the outer edge of the door and move it up and down to test for hinge wear. If there is any wear, it would be best to correct that before trying to make adjustments elsewhere. Doors fit well these days and this enables the seals to perform as designed, keeping the car interior dry and wind noise at bay. Mike.

the hinges use a cup and socket system , and do wear, but are very easy to replace ,

you can undo the bottom screw, then undo the top bolt, this takes out the securing pin, the actual door doesnt pivot on this, but the top hinge section has a pivot point on that sits over a matching cup on the bottom part ,

with both the hinge pins removed, ( and the electrics) the door simply lifts off the two body sections, and fitting is exactly the same,

with regard to wear, open the door , take a firm hold of the latch end and try and lift upwards, if there is wear you will be able to lift the door a few mm's , if no wear can be felt, then o would investigate the striker , as long as the door sits correctly once shut

Thanks for the responses to the original query, I have checked the door by grasping the outer edge and rocked. No apparent play in the hinges being evident, in fact the whole car is moved immediately. There ahs not been any work done to the striker plate either but will start looking htere as the upper edge of the door steel is catching on the striker, strange one!

Assuming the door has an even shut line around the reveal and you are sure that the striker plate on the b post hasn't moved it seems likely that the actual lock has moved within the door.
All other Jags seem to have a lock which will move about 5mm in any direction also rotate a little by undoing the screws in the "end" of the door........
