wheel arches

judging by previous threads, It looks unlikely that rear wheel arch 'repair kits' are available
(e.g. new sections available to be welded on or over the existing). Does anybody have any experience on this. I would have thought it would be possible to cut back the corroded area
and plant a new section over the existing/weld/grind/rub down and respray. Of course life
is not usually that simple, and I don't have any breakers nearby to access materials, (how could they be taken from an old car without deforming?) but I am sure many cars must have been repaired in around the notorious forward section of the rear wheel arch.

Hi painter, im in the process myself of adding some (more daily!) new metal. Just taxed my Xkr '98 after a sorn period so as to motc her for the coming year. Took her out for a good "Tromp"(bye she goes well!) and on my return looked under at the rear jacking points/sills-arrrrr. Holes + very bubbly paint(Sills). Anyway(offside) i cut nearly to centre joint to find good metal. The front sill section doubles up behind rear half with next to no gap with outer sill creating a nice water trap. I went to my local steel fab shop and bought a piece of 1.2mm sheet steel for £11 (approx 1m square-they sell by weight). Wheel arch-i had to cut a section out about a third of the way up the arch,100mm wide tapering in.The arch panels are only glued in place with sealant ,this is where the water finds its way into sils!!! Once i had welded(very diff as panels are only 1mm!)and glued new panel in,i used cardboard on the edge of the new panel to draw a template for the arch return-20mm wide/cut out with wiss snips. When new edge is welded on,yes-its too square, but a bit of filler will sort that!.
Other bad area's-chassis bottom/rear with 50mm bung (below shocker), double skin area chassis/over drive shafts. Ive now taken(tugged off) rear bumper (really NAFF bracket design Jaguar-are you listening!!)off as i have had to cut out LOTS around sliding braket for bumper/bottom rear wing to arch. Sounds bad but i am actually on top now-phew!
BEWARE -you guys with 2005 -older with the sills especially if it has sill covers, checked my mates 2005 Xk8 last week - surface rust !!!!!
