Respray avoidance?

Hello again!
I'm currently trying, amongst other things, to improve the appearance of the paintwoek on my Sherwood green metallic XK8. The paint is original and has numerous tiny stone chips on the bonnet, some light surface scratching and a small number of lacquer penetrating scratches. I doubt I can run to a complete respray at the moment, but was thinking, perhaps naively, of an alternative. Does anybody know if it is feasible to give a panel a light coat of paint which will fill stonechips etc, leave to dry for a day or so but not harden completely and then cut back taking the new paint off apart from that in the stone chip/scratch holes? Top off with a lacquer coat - what could possibly go wrong? Any responses, once you've stopped laughing, would be very welcome

NO NO NO NO NO

if , the paint chips are as bad as you say , you can get a pint stick and fill in the chips, then , when dry for a week or so get the car ' mopped '

will cost about £150 at any good body shop

will bring the paint up like new if not too bad

Just looked into mopping on the WWW. Any particular reason I shouldn't do it myself, given the need for care on edges?

no reason at all,

but be really careful of the edges, and also burning the paint with the friction , use plenty of water, and get hold of a proper mopping machine, they are much slower than an angle grinder !!

hope it comes out as you want

the other next cheapest option is to source a replacement bonnet in the right colour, shouldn't cost more than £100 if you can wait till one turns up
