Exterior Window Trim

Hi All.
I have an Anthracite Black coupe and the grey trim on the windows has a couple of small patches where the finish has flaked off. Does anyone know how I can make it good?

It's a common problem, but I haven't heard of any treatment other than buying new trim

Hi, Had a simular problem on my front windscreen surround. Got a body shop to , touch-up/respray, whilst carrying out another spray job. they did alright too. Could not see where they blended it in ! Hope this helps. Happy New Year. Peter Dyer.

Hi Mike
the surrounds colour is called Dorchester Grey (don't know part no) and is available from Jaguar Dealers in a touch-up bottle kit form.

I know this is an old thread but I have the same problem, so I shall need to touch up the areas that have peeled. On a related note, it looks to me that the window trim surround is made of stainless steel. Was the XK8 coupe ever supplied with the trim 'bright' rather than painted as it is on the new XK? I think it would probably look good, particularly on a black car. Does anyone know of a supplier?

To my knowledge it has always been this colour.
I would also think, but not 100% sure, that the surround is actually aluminium, but I stand corrected if someone knows differently.

Yes, I dont think I have ever seen a UK car with Bright trim but as the US usually have slightly more 'bling' on their cars I wondered what it might be like. It could be aluminium rather than Stainless, i haven't looked that closely. It might mean a session with the touch up paint to bring up to standard.

For anyone who has the 'peeling window trim syndrome' on their XK8 coupe I can share the following tip.
Buy an aerosol of Peugeot 'Graphite metallic' from Halfords.
Rub down, prime and spray and you will find it is a perfect match. Even on part lengths of trim you 'can't see the join'

Thanks for that idea for a colour match, I too have one bad trim which needs some TLC. I'll take a look when in halfords

Thanks for the advice re Halfords paint. I have a few areas on my 2002 Anthracite Black XK8 which need a bit of attention. I thought it may mean a complete trim replacement, but this may save a fortune, and if it isn't perfect it won't be the end of the world 'cos I'll only be back at the same stage of replacing the trim eventually. Thanks for a very worthwhile tip.

Why use a different makers paint code when you can buy the correct 'Dorchester Grey' Jaguar colour from any good paint supplier (such as CARS) in aerosols, touch up or the full tin? Just don't see the point.
