Door lock activators

My 1998 XK 100 convertible has a problem with door locking. The fob when pressed causes a clicking noise in the drivers door but the actuator does not operate the locks although it does set the alarm. I understand the fault could lie with either door from researching the subject so I am reluctant to tear down the door furniture and risk breaking plastic fixings etc unless I know which door the fault may be on. I think the mechanism also contains 3 microswitches. Any info on this issue would be much appreciated. The battery is good and fully charged. Manually locking with the key in the driver's door has never worked I'm guessing there is a wire link broken or has come adrift

It does rather sound like you have already diagnosed the problem. If mechanically locking the door with a key doesn't work, it suggests the problem is a mechanical one with that door. Sort that first and go from there. Bear in mind that, if you haven't owned the car from new, you can't be sure if someone hasn't added a second mechanical fault whilst looking for another, possibly electrical, failure. Mike.
