windscreen pillars

Has anybody ever found a problem with corrosion to the windscreen pillars where they disappear beneath the windscreen? Having had the windscreen replaced the cause of the crack was evident as the pillars are corroded and expanded onto the glass. Looks as though the windscreen has been replaced before and the sealant has not been continuous around the perimeter at the bottom corners - letting water in where it cannot be seen. The pillars are in a bad state, not sure if this job is doable!!

The pictures appear to illustrate a problem which is repairable but which could, in all probability, have been avoided by a more careful replacement of the original windscreen. I have seen this problem before on various makes of car, caused by careless removal of the glass. The paint finish is damaged by the use of sharp tools and rust sets in insidiously. It only becomes apparent a few years later when extensive repairs become necessary. It's certainly worth saving any half decent XK8 which suffers this unfortunate fate. Mike.

glad you consider this repairable, there is still some rust appearing (again) around the rear wheel arches but not that visible unless you know where to look. I think the pillar problem stems from the lack of sealant when replacing the windscreen, as there is a gap in the sealant precisely where the rust has formed. A little more care as you say would have avoided this. However the Cornish atmosphere will find any weakness at a rate of knots.
