Convertible door seals

Has anyone experienced this issue? As you will see from the picture, the rubber seal is split. This has occurred on both doors. I have uploaded a link to show what happens when the window goes up, but not sure if it will play, hopefully it will. I am concerned that if I purchase a replacement seal, won't the window break through the rubber again? Is it that the rubber has just perished (after 15 years). Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi Doug,
Yes video plays OK.
IMO regarding the door seals it looks like the glass moves to the left quite a lot when it starts to come down.
So there could be some wear in the window mechanism that makes the glass move like that.
Perhaps someone else with a convertible can check to see how their windows come down.

Hi All, Here's another thing. I have looked at getting a new door seal for the area around the bottom of the door which incorporates where the window comes up and was shocked! The Jaguar part number appears to be HJA5363AC for the L/H side door and HJA5362BC for the R/H side door. HJA5363AC is £423.65 and HJA5362BC is £279.97 both inc vat. First, as the door rubbers must be the same except one is L/H/S & the other R/H/S. How can they be so different in price? Also, I have just checked out the X150 model's door seal (C2P19091) and the Jaguar price for this is £74.80. I just don't understand why there is so much difference in price between the two models, or perhaps YOU do?

There is a solution (inexpensive) for the door seal issues on the X-100 being published in the October 2020 edition of the JE magazine, so watch out for that at the end of this month.

Jaguar's parts pricing policy often shows differences between left and right handed articles on models out of production. Typically, costs rise afterwards because, during a model's production, parts are bought in massive numbers. After production has ended and once any existing supplies have been used up, only small numbers per annum of parts may be required and therefore replacements are ordered in comparatively small numbers at a time. Similarly, the use rate of left and right handed items might be different so the original stocks may become depleted at different rates, in turn causing them to be replenished at different times. For the original suppliers, supplying small quantities can mean disruption to current production to supply those much smaller numbers so they charge accordingly and Jaguar passes on those costs. Over time, the numbers required get smaller and smaller so the per item cost to Jaguar and to us continues to increase. It's a vicious circle. However, the alternative of no supplies at all is even worse! Mike.

Hi Mike, That doesn't explain why the XK150 model door seal is so cheap, when this too is out of production. Are you saying that they still have plenty of supplies and the price is likely to increase when their stock runs out. If the X100 model price is anything to go by, are you saying that X150 owners can expect to pay a further £350 when the stocks run out. If so, X150 owners, buy your door seals now!!! Or those that can, buy up the old stock now and make a fortune in the future!!!

I recall that the X100 seals came from a Japanese supplier reputed to be the best in the business at the time. I can't say if the X150 seals came from the same source. However, I suspect you are right in saying that X150 seals will rocket in price when the original supplies are exhausted! Mike.

German (sorry guys) car manufacturers VW/Audi/Merc recommend using a product called Krytox which is a thin white grease that comes in a tube. It's used to treat/condition rubber seals. It stops leaks and also any creaking that you can get especially with convertibles. It's expensive but it goes a long way and only need using every 3/4 years. I've used it on my Mercedes SL (sorry again guys) and it does work. Reading the post's on here and how expensive new seals are, it might be worth trying. There are other products on the market which are not as expensive but they have to be used on a yearly basis.
