I have an intermittent 'ping' noise that seems to be coming from the rear left of the car, a 2003 X100 XKR. Driving me nuts try to find out where its coming from.
The exhaust is solid as a rock. Been hit in all sorts of places with a rubber hammer............. no ping.
The hand brake has been checked. No slack. Even driven it holding the hand brake on while driven to take up any slack..... still pings.
All new suspension at the rear. New shocks and springs. Poly bushes. I strongly suspect a fault here somewhere. Perhaps that 'hat' thing that sits atop of the suspension has come loose?
So can ANYONE tell me what is causing this ***** noise. Usually appears at low speed, under 30 mph after hitting a pot hole.
Hard to re-create. Does not make a peep, or should that be a ping, on standstill. Had two of us bouncing the rear up and down while parked. no ping.
So help! I need to fix this before it drives me nuts. Here is just one 'ping' to show you what I have to put up with.

Just come across this after months away. Turned out to be the bell shaped housing on top of the suspension arm. Loosened it. Turned it. Tightened it. Ding gone!
