Rough paint on bonnet and roof

Postby dyrham663 » Thu Aug 07, 2025 10:57 am

I was polishing the car after watching and I noticed the roof and bonnet felt quite rough to my finger tips. The side, bonnet and rear bodywork is smooth. Visually, it all looks the same green.

Just ageing?

Hi Steve, it sounds like tree sap has gotten on the bonnet and rook of the car, which is okay if you catch it early, but allowed to sit for a few days in hot weather and it bakes on. Choose a small area that you can feel is rough and use Meguiar's Compound, or similar, to gently polish the offending area. If that does the trick, then there is no option but to compound polish the whole affected area - don't forget to apply a good quality wax afterwards.

Hi Jim,

Thanks. I'll get some elbow grease on it when it cools down! See if it does the trick.
