Spare tyre well hole!

Hi All,
I had occasion to lift the spare tyre cover recently and noticed a hole in the floor. Located in the top right corner of the well when standing at the open boot and the road surface can be seen. It’s about 25mm in diameter perfectly round so it’s not rot. It’s obviously supposed to be there but I’ve never noticed it, I’m assuming it should have a grommet/bung in. Can anyone throw any light on this before I try filling it with a 25mm cable grommet.

It's a while since I ran an XK8 so forgive me if my memory is incorrect. However, I seem to recall that XK8s had a grommet in the boot floor designed to take a vent tube from batteries equipped with them. Mike.

Mine, that has never been disturbed, has that same square patch in that corner as Lucky's second photo. The battery vent goes through one of two grommeted holes right in the corner in front of the battery.

Hi,
Thanks to you all for replying so quickly. Mine is exactly like Luckys first photo, just under the high power module.
Since one of Luckys photos shows a patch and the other photo a hole does it matter if it’s blocked off?
I guess not.

The hole was only there whilst they were carrying out repairs. It is now covered over again.
