I want to adjust my drivers door and have seen in the past some metal plate shims with U shaped slots in them, so you do not actually have to remove the hinge itself. Cannot find any. Anyone know where I can get one from?
Thanks!

Hi Frank,
I think you will find that Jaguar had sufficient confidence in the consistency of its side pressings for the XK8 not to use shims on its hinges. If you have hinge wear, it is still possible to buy new door hinges from Jaguar. Equally, it's possible to adjust the door glasses if that's the problem. Mike.

Thanks Mike.
So is the adjustment done at the body side or in the door?

Re: Door adjustment shims.
The full glass adjustment procedure is extremely fiddly but in essence it involves: powering the window down, removing the switch and door casing to gain access. Remove the outer waist moulding. Then, to help you, mark (felt tip or similar) the glass by drawing lines, one 6mm (coupe) or 9mm (conv) horizontally down from the top edge; and a line parallel 6mm from the front top edge.
Refit the switch and power the window up to just below the upper seal. To adjust the gap between glass and outer waist rail flange, ease the rear guide upper screw and adjust the position of the guide until a gap of 9mm is achieved. Then, re-tighten the screw.
Using the guide runner lower adjusters at the front and back, adjust the glass top edge to ensure it's in line with the upper seal.
Through the access hole in the water shedder, loosen the glass regulator stop adjuster bolt. Power the window up until the horizontal marker matches the upper seal. Move glass regulator stop to the quadrant and tighten the stop bolt. Move the window fully up to check the adjustment and the travel is correct. Redo the adjustment as many times prove necessary until the glass seats properly in the upper seal. You will probably need patience!
With the window fully up, ease the door waist adjuster lock nuts (top of door either end) and screw adjusters in until they touch the window stops. Next, adjust the gap between rear edge of window and the front edge of the rear quarter light to set it parallel. Slacken lift regulator channel adjuster lock nut (just forward of the rearmost oblong opening). Move the channel to achieve a parallel gap of 8mm on coupe, 11mm on convertible. Re-tighten lock nut. Check all gaps and alignments, re-assemble door, have a cup of tea and go for several beers! Alternatively, if the original problem is a worn or damaged seal, it might be a lot easier to change it. Mike.

Thanks Mike. Next time I wish to adjust the window glass I will try and remember this post.
