hi everyone. I am new to the club, having recently bought a 2007 xkr ragtop.
I am really pleased with it, but have a creaking from the drivers side hinges on the softtop, or at least I think thats where the noise is coming from. Has anyone experienced this before? And more to the point is it easy to cure?
Thanks
Bill

Welcome to the Club and BB and congrats on the aquisition of your new toy
Regrettably I can't help you with your query but I am sure someone will be along soon and is able to help you. Meantime, enjoy the car.

It might pay you to re-post this on to the 'New XK' board - as us 'Spamcan' owners may not read all the earlier XK8/R stuff.

Re: Creaking softtop XKR
Its the fourth or so topic down on the XK8 Board index - its not a separate forum just a new thread within the XK8 forum; I only have tin tops at present, though my wife had to have her soft-top (not Jag) serviced recently, which included taking a lot of the mechanism apart and lubricating the various bits...not something I would ever have considered you need to do on a soft top.
Hopefully one of the forum guys will pick this up with you if you repost on the new XK thread...welcome to the club and hope you enjoy your new acquisition and join us at one of our events this year.
Cheers

Hi Spaniard
I found the creaking but have not solved the problem yet.
If you start the engine, keep it running or it will fall, fold the hood until it is vertical and look under the head lining in the corner, you can see a loose piece of plastic that forms the hard flat area by the window when the hood is up. This is held in place by two cords so is effectively floating!! until it is clamped in place as the hood goes up. mine has scuff marks indicating movement or entrapment on operation but I cant see how it could be correctly located. I need to put more brain work in to this when I have more time but I think this is a good place to start. let us know if you find an answer.
Good luck.

Hi Spaniard
I said last time the problem maybe the plastic part that I mentioned behind the lining. Now I have put some thought in and solved my problem, it may work for you also.
Get out your good old tin of WD40 use the fine tube end, with a cloth to stop it spreading onto the lining and spray the black plastic above the speaker where it meets the lining and along to the back seat. It's actually two pieces one above the other that lock together, only apparent on close inspection, push the parts when wet to get the lubricant in there, it worked for me. If it drys up and creeks again I will work some grease in.
Good luck john

Re: Creaking softtop XKR
I have a small tub of Vaseline Jelly, the sort they use for nappy rash? I just smear some between the bits that rub together and produce the noise. Good for stopping all manner of car squeaks.
