replacing door handle gaskets

Postby dickensn49724 » Fri Jun 30, 2017 4:59 pm

has any body had the fortune to replace the door gaskets on an XK8, I have new gaskets but haven't been able to source the right procedure. I have been able to remove the internal door card but that is about as far as I have got, can anybody help?

Hello,
What do you mean by "gaskets"?
Do you mean what looks like the rubber surround or backing to the door handles? If so where did you get them? I asked my local dealer as mine are past their best and they said the handle was only available as a complete assembly.

Hi Doug
yes the rubber gaskets behind the door handle. I have looked at various sites mainly in US where they were asking up to $100 but I finally found a pair in Derby for £15.00, but now I have them the next task is to fit them???

If you have the door card off the car, removing the handle is straightforward. Remove the centre door card bracket. Peel back the PVC cover carefully and remove it, move the secondary water shedder aside. Now, you have access to disconnect the link rods from the handle and the motor before removing the two screws which hold the external handle in place. As is often said, simply reverse these directions to reassemble everything. Mike.
