My car got its MOT last month and there was an advisory pointing to a rust hole in a panel behind the upright of the front subframe.
Can anyone recommend a good bodyshop in Surrey
Thanks

Re: Rust on panel behind subframe
Just had my car MOT'd and as per this original post the same advisory was given regarding corrosion behind the subframe ass'y. Apparently this will require removal of the subframe etc to repair the corrosion. My question to the Forum is, does anyone else have experience of this problem, if so whilst the subframe is removed, what other jobs should be done simultaneously in order to maximise the effort required for this operation? I intend to wait and plan this repair at a later date, Car is a 1999 4.0 XKR.

Re: Rust on panel behind subframe
Hi Steve,
As mentioned previously, a photo of the rusted area would help everyone gain a better idea of the exact area at issue. These cars (X100 XK8s and XKRs) are all between 7 and 16 years of age so, inevitably, corrosion is becoming a bigger issue. The plastic wheel arch liners, in particular, are guilty of encouraging complacency. They do a good job of reducing damage from road debris but unless they are removed and the steel beneath is waxoyled or similarly treated, rust can begin unnoticed, only becoming apparent when the damage is extensive. No steel or aluminium car can ever be immune from corrosion. However, the performance of the modern treated steels of the XK8 is infinitely better than those used 10 years earlier on the XJ-S. My 1986 XJ-S cabriolet had to have a full respray at 4 years of age to treat its rust! Mike.

Hello,
I had the same corrosion issues on my 2001 XK8 which was discovered at the MOT. Jagutek had seen 4 XKs of various ages with this problem this year, including a 2004 model. Its well worth checking! Can't think of any influencing factors, I drive the car daily but it is regularly washed and waxed and kept in a garage. Jagutek did their usual sterling job fixing it but we forgot to take photos. There was a photo in a recent club mag though.
