Rattle

When driving my 2000X XKR with the hood down I notice a metallic rattle whenever I hit a bump in the road. Seems to come from the rear. Can't see anything obvious when I look underneath. Possible suspension problem? Anyone had similar experiences or have any suggestions?

Also can anyone recommend a good Jaguar garage in the Stockport or East Manchester area?

Hi Barry take a look on the guest postings there is a simular problem on there that has been resolved it turned out to be the handbrake cable just needed tightning up

Hi Guys ,
To test whether or not it's the handbrake cable , drive along until you hear the rattle and apply the handbrake a click or two , if the noise disapears its the cable , if not try 1. rear exhaust mounts 2 . baffle loose in rear box(s) 3. rear shock absorber bushes 4 . rear axle links for play
Not an exhaustive list (pardon the pun) but probally a good start point , I suppose if all else fails you could always turn the stereo UP !!!

Arrrrrrrrrh- i've got the dreaded rattle some where in the rear. will have to try looking at all the usual points like hand brake cable/shocker bushes. So anoying when you just get your car looking mint! Having her rust proofed and undersealed before fitting a new sports exhaust- Cat back/s/steel 2 1/4" straight thru',crossover b 4 diff with back boxes and quad out- lets !!!!!!!!!!-Yous might here me from down under -ha!

Hello Barry,
I had a knocking noise from the back of my XK8, turned out to be the rear shock absorbers. Replaced at 44,000 Km, no visible signs of failure and nothing appeared to be loose.
