Bought a pollen filter co,s hay fever seems to be a bit worse this year, proceeded to fit new one and found that there aint an old one!
Done a bit of research and it seems that these were an optional extra on a 2002 XKR. Is this true?

same for the XJ8 to , even the Sovereign ,

one thing to point out,

when the ' optional ' pollen filter was fitted , the aircon would need reprogramming to allow for the extra restriction to the airflow ,

though i havnt heard of any problems for those that didnt have the reprogramming done

Easy to fit and like BB states , reprogram the aircon for a bit more puff ,

Hi - would also like to check this - where exactly is it located - can't find on JTIS.

It's located at the rear of the engine compartment below the plenum cover. Remove the wiper arms, followed by the plenum cover and the pollen filter is tucked underneath. Mike.

As there is already a thread, I have taken the liberty of opening it up again, hope the is ok with "Bob" the OP.

Is there anyway to determine if the pollen/cabin filter is actually fitted WITHOUT dismantling the car ?

Thought I would check to see if I have one on the 2002 XK8... already up against the problem of removing the wiper arms... one cap missing so rusted solid. Been soaking for a couple weeks in white spirit and wax-oil and now soaking in Ferrosol . The other arm, with cap, the nut is now off but arm rusted to spindle... is this normal ??

Just wondering if air impact gun would be too much strain on spindle? Can't shift it with a socket and wrench as its trying to twist the spindle.............

I have one of these which I used on an S-type to remove a suborn wiper arm from the spindle. Once again mixed metal corrosion by-products noted.

What a simple idea ! Still got to get the nut off the passenger side one though might give the airgun a go

Well, given up on taking the wiper arms off, rusted solid....

soaked them in penetrating fluid again and left them now, put THE cap back and taped over the other one (missing cap hence the rust) try them again in a week or two.

Got all the other screws on the panel out and then put them back with copious amounts of copper grease on the threads. Broke one of the grey screw covers on the panel, well the tab came off so another bit on the wanted list.

I only wanted to check the pollen /cabin filter, if there is one anyway........

To get the wiper arms off I used a miniature, sometimes called micro, puller. A bit fiddly but without one damage might be caused to the surrounding area. Once the arms are off grease the spindles to make getting the arms off next time.

Thanks will give it a go once I have managed to remove the nut It still won't give up so still soaking,,

different metals expand at different rates....so the saying goes


try some boiling water ( not near the screen !! ) to shock the nut free


at your own risk
