Indy garage gearbox oil change

Anyone in Northwest have an independent garage that could change the box oil and filter on four litre xk8 ?
Need somewhere near Preston ish area, north Wales jag can do but over two hundred miles round trip so really need somewhere nearer .
I would do it myself but really need a two poster and another person plus temp gauge

Found a Jag Indy 20 miles away

Booked in to do the gearbox and diff, probably change the oil and filter whilst its on the ramp too, save me crawling around under it in my garage.

Will report back when done and if Indy can be recommended.

The gearbox oil has been changed and so too the diff oil.

Preston Jag Centre did the deed, a very courteous owner even arranged transport, dropped the other half and I off at the local "I've seen you coming. com" garden centre come multifranchise at Barton near Preston whilst they got on with the job.

I got a 'phone call to tell me when everything was completed and an offer to pick us up again! Really nice touch, that.

Had a great conversation when we got back resulting in the news that there were NO bits/particles/deterioration of the oil and filters and that they suspected it had probably been changed in its lifetime In addition it was pointed out that this was one of the best XK8 around with regard to corrosion, i.e the lack of it!

The car has an excellent gearbox anyway, smooth shifting and no jolting, probably as a result of being looked after in its previous life. I have only driven it home so not been intensively used yet but I have put it on cardboard, in the garage, to check for any leaks, none apparent at the moment.

Another job off the list

Gearbox oil changing is worth every penny spent. Just had the diff oil and the gearbox filter and ZF Lifeguard fluid done on my X350R at 78k miles with no driving issues present at the time. Tom Lenthal in Wokingham did my oil service and said 60k was the recommended interval set by ZF . My car was about 18k miles over but the oil came out in fair condition with the filter clear when broken open for inspection.

Having had a broken early model V8 S-type box blow up at 54k miles and needing £1700 spent to get fixed, I am in no hurry to have that happen again. So £350 spent every 60k for a new filter and oil drop makes good economic sense.

The best bit is knowing you have done the utmost for your car. Its also a great selling point to be able to show the invoice and ask a prospective buyer if any of the other cars he has considered has had such care lavished upon it! The more substantive invoices for preventative work you can show, the easier a car will be to sell on.

I keep a most detailed file on work carried out to my cars. Dates and mileages figure on a running document I keep on my pc. Every part change is listed with invoices to prove. i also record defects and later remedial actions to cancel my entries out. That is worth far more than just Main Dealer service stamps in the book.
