How much should I expect to pay to get timing tensioner / chain done on a 98 XK8 4.0?
Thanks in advance

Try Neville Anderson at NE Jagspares for best prices. Mention that you are a JEC Member.
Full chain and tensioner kit as in this link
http://www.jaguarspares-northeast.co.uk ... d%3D156%26
As regards fitting costs, you will have to negotiate that with the person you entrust with the job. He will need to have the special tool kit needed to lock up the cams and prevent movement during the replacement process. Select your man carefully. He also needs to have the specialist experience to do this job.

The nearest independant specialist to Tyneside in the Recommended Suppliers Database seems

Hi
Had mine done in Stockton - full tensioner & chain change, approx £1100 all in, having seen the cracked items & worn chains after replacement I felt it was well worth the money, knowing the engine will survive! XKR is a wonderful vehicle.

Just had done by Alan Carr Jaguar Services in North Shields.
Having seen the chain and tensioners removed I am mighty glad I got done now as I was obviously on borrowed time. Total cost was £933 which whilst a fair bit of money I thought was a decent price and a lot cheaper than a full engine job. Impressed with Alan who spent a lot of time talking me through what could be needed and came in at a good price. Alan has given me some guidance on preventative maintenance going forward. Don't know if anyone else has used him but impressed so far.
