Engine Oil Change on XK8

Hi
Im new to the Club and relatively new to XK8 ownership and would be grateful for some advice and information:
1. When changing the engine oil is there a specific procedure to be followed, i.e. drain and replace oil before removing and replacing oil filter to ensure oil pump remains primed?
2. The genuine oil filters I have seen advertised all seem to come with a plastic drain plug. Does this mean that the drain plug has to be replaced at each oil change?
3. What is the Part No. for an oil filter to fit a January 2003 4.2 XK8?
Thanks
Doug

first of all Doug......welcome
as for changing the oil , its very simple ,
procedure wise , its warm up the engine , this ensures the old oil flows freely when being drained
then , with the correct equipment, remove the sump plug and collect the old oil, there will be about 7ltrs of it , so be prepared
then once fully drained , ( give it 15 mins while you have a cup of tea ) remove the old oil filter, this will contain a little oil , it simply unscrews anti-clockwise ,
clean up the oil filter mount , and smear a little new oil on the new filters sealing rubber , then screw into place , you only need to do it hand tight , firm , but only hand tight
then , either refit or replace the sump plug , Jaguar advise a new one every time, i do mine every other oil change for economic reasons ? but they are about £6 brand new from Jag ,
the oil filter is also about £12 from Jaguar, and as your a JEC member you will get 10 or 15% discount on parts
now for the oil, grade is 5W30 , semi-synthetic , you will need 7 ltr to fill her up , so buy two 5 ltr cans, and you will have some spare for topping up in between changes etc
fill her up with oil, but dont over-fill , run the engine, check the level and adjust as required
i also put in some additive , and it seems to work well on my slightly older engine
hope this helps

Doug, it's useful to jack the rear left hand side of the car up a tad to get all the oil out - and have three cups of tea whilst it's draining...!

The filter's Jaguar part number is C2N3587. To complete an oil change as Brake buster described, you will also need to remove the plastic alternator air duct (one 7/8mm headed bolt). Mike.
