Throttle body cleaning

Postby Martin904 » Tue Mar 03, 2009 6:33 pm

My 2002 4.0 XKR is definitely a bit below par on the acceleration front and I am thinking in the first instance of checking and cleaning the throttle body. How can i access this and does anybody recommend a good cleaner for the job ?

I am planning on doing the same thing in the next couple of weeks, and downloaded the following article in preparation.

http://www.maxperformancecars.com/dmdoc ... n_MAFS.pdf

Also type in 'throttle body' in the search function on the forum and you should come up with other relevant posts.

Thanks for the info. I have downloaded the document and looks to be exactly what I need.

I'll let you know the results in a couple of weeks time.

Hi,

I've just cleaned the throttle body and didn't really get a measurable improvement. However, I then cleaned the mass air flow sensor with Halfords electrical contact cleaner and it made an amazing difference. The car now has fantastic mid range and smoother gearbox.

Good luck.

Thanks for that, I think I will try that first as it looks a bit easier than the throttle body job !
