Cruise control

I am planning to retrofit the cruise control system to my XK8 (1997). I am basing the upgrade on one carried out on an XJ8 and documented by a company up north. Firstly I need to confirm that the parts and technique are the same for the XK as for XJ, and secondly, as I dont have cruise I need to know where the parts fit! If you have cruise on your car can you tell me where the two vacuum tanks and the two vacuum valves are normally fitted on an XK.

I believe the parts on the XK and the XJ are the same, am I correct?

Hi Geoff ,
I have just retrofitted cruise control to my 98 XK8 , it's relatively simple depending on the year , if you need any info /photos/advise/help in parts sourcing etc I will be happy to help ,

Have you ever considered writing this up and sending it in to Nigel Thorley for a Forum article.?
There will surely be some considerable interest in this.

Hi Dave ,
I have already had my article on the retrofitting of cruise control published but I am more than happy to email a Microsoft word copy and the stage photos to anyone who might be interested , if any of our members require any additional assistance they can PM if they get stuck , I'm very happy to help any JEC XK owner ,

Best Wishes ,

Sounds very interesting, but what sort of cost approximately would retrofit cruise control be? (What issue was the article in? I have only been in the JEC since last August and can't remember it in any of the issues I have)

Hi ,
The cost would depend on where you source the parts from , new parts would be prohibitive but secondhand parts could probably be had for £70-£80 ? The article was published in "Growler" magazine which is the magazine of the XKEC , if you carry out the conversion yourself and are reasonably handy you could easily do it in a weekend allowing for numerous cups of tea  , if you need any assistance please don't hesitate to PM me ,

Best Wishes ,

Unfortunately, I don't get Growler magazine. Price doesn't sound too bad, but mechanically, it would be out of my league to even dream of doing it!

Thanks, Damian
