Hi guys

newbie member looking for advice.

I'm looking at an XKR with 53k on the clock, convertible antigua blue, indep. jag dealer, 12 month warranty, original tensioners, (so would need to change), blowby of 29, concerned this is too high and taking as much advice as I can from everyone, would appreciate any comments. He's asking £14995

yes,

29 is a bit high, as no higher then 30 is recommended i think,

my own car ( 1999 4ltr ) came back as a 19 , so not too much to be worried about

HOWEVER

some members have reported different readings from the same engine at different tests, so i would get it done again just to see if the same result was obtained

tensioner and chain replacement will cost £1200 or there abouts, but you would also need a new coolant pump and thermostat to do a proper job

To be reliable, the test needs to be done on a thoroughly warm engine. The Jaguar limit before considering a qarranty claim used to be 39 l per min. However, 20 l per min or less is a safer limit when you are buying a second hand car. Mike.

Mine was 24 litres per minute at 56K. Still running well at 87K. I shouldn't be concerned about 29.

I can understand the concern. I have a 98 registered XJ8 (as well as 2003 XK8). The XJ8 has the same 4 litre engine as the earlier XK's. It had 62k on the clock when I had a blow by test which produced a result of 18ml per min. Well within the acceptable range and therefore I was happy to spend more getting the tensioners sorted. But then the XJ cost £5k not £15k.

I meant 18 litres per min. That's what happens when you're helping the kids with their maths homework while typing
