Hi, the Vehicle Care Handbook page 24 provides information on a range of oils that can be used in this car. If you go to the OPIE Oils website (opieoils.co.uk) and put in your car reg they will offer you a variety of oils that you can choose from. The 10W-40 viscosity will cover the ambient temperature range of -5 to + 50'C according to the handbook. The other requirement is the oil meets the minimum specification of API SH / ACEA A2 which they all seem to exceed. If you want an oil for lower than -5 'C temperatures then a 5W-30 oil will be needed but that will need to be fully synthetic ACEA A3.
Hope this helps.

Linda,
I've always run in 5w-30 in my Jaguar 4.0 & 4.2 V8 engines. Either C3 or an LL variant.

Linda,
I have the same problem with what oil to chose. On page 24 of the handbook my car which is a 1996 coupe shows 15W-40 AP1SH/ACEA A2
That covers you between temperatures of -10C to +20C
It doesnt say semi synthetic or other type
The next Oil that could be used is 5W-40 or 10W 40 which covers you between -20C to + 50C with the same specification.
Can someone clarify what oil and make is the best way forward.

alsjaguar,
As you can imagine you'll get a variety of answers from people on both make, type and weight.
My strong suggestion is, if you're UK-based use a 5w30 synthetic from a reputable brand such as Castrol, change it every 10k max miles or every year, whichever comes soonest and your engine will be fine.

David Marks always put 5W30 in my 2001 4.0L (Shell Helix Ultra Professional AF 5W30 the last couple of times).

Yes 5w-30 is the way to go.
Always used that in my X308.
Changed every year regardless of milage along with a new Jaguar oil filter.
Take care.
Andy
