I never ceased to be impressed by the ability of these large 4/5 litre engines to crack the 30mpg under favourable conditions. It reminds me how far ICE engines have progressed during my motoring career. Mike.

Well, the impressive above MPG came after a 500 mile round trip, when the weather was warm. Then Noticed the cooling fan cutting in pretty much all the time and running on for 10 minutes after stopping, even after a short journey, then got ‘coolant low’ warning, but the level is fine. As the temp gauge is obviously not much use, as it’s not a proper gauge, I rather suspect the water pump is failing, as I think it’s the original one. For now I have put it away and using the XF…
