XK8

I am thinking of buying an 1996 XK8. It has had a re-manufactured? engine replacement following failure of the timing chain tensioners for £7500!! in 2003. Will this solve the problems with the engine - tensioners, thermostats, water pumps nikasil etc?

Hi as far as i understand most of these engines were replaced because of the nikersil problems, but i dont think that they were fitted with the 3rd generation tensioners or water pumps as these were obviosly sent back to jaguar, and they got an engineering company to bore them out anf fix steel liners and pistons etc, so yes it will elliminate the bore problems ,
but if you buy it i would certainly recomend that you get an independant jag specialist to check outr what is fitted, if you have the 2nd generation tensioners and pump fitted, then i think that it will be well worth the cost to upgrade , then you can enjoy the car to the full without thinking if it will fail,, mine have all been done with a new stat /pump and tensioners i sleep well at night now hope this helps
