rhd to lhd headlight conversion

hi everyone i have a 1997 xk8 witch i would like to do a rhd to lhd headlight conversion as its from the uk and now its in Sweden ,it has halogen lamps ,do they need changing or just adjusting ?next problem which befalls me . First I had a problem with the rear shock bushes which I replaced no problem but then the warning on dash came up stability control & abs so I read meny posts on the net to clean the speed sensors so I did but the back ones were stuck so I replaced them but the warning were still there and check all wire to sensors and wires to shocks ,so I also read that it could be the abs control box ,I tackled that but to get it off you have to bleed the brakes so I did and they work well but now there is a red warning light low brake fluid so I checked the Sender in the brake master cylinder ,and the handbrake switch which is also on , so now my dash looks like a Xmas tree any ideas john

Hello John,
First part RHD to LHD headlamps. What you need to do is change the shadow masks inside the headlamps. Jaguar will not sell you these, only a whole headlamp. I made my shadowmasks using some stainless steel off cuts. However have a look at http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JAGUAR-XK8-XK ... 58cd51e8cd, or go to eBay UK and search for item number 381401819341. The eBay ad is for Black Country Jaguar whom I have used before and would recommend.
Once you have the masks it takes about an hour to fit them, involving more patience than effort. I find removing the front wheels make the job easier. I fit the UK ones for the UK road worthinest test and fit the LHD one for use on the continent, my car is a LHD one.

ABS problems. There are a few threads on the forum on this topic which you may find useful. I have repaired my ABS module using the Jaguar TIS method for removing the module and the procedure on JagLovers for the module work. The module now works fine.

I suspect Mike will make a contribution on fixing the Christmas lights, urging the use of a code reader and the application of wisdom.

thanks for the reply i had a look today opened up the headlamp and had a look at the shadow masks as i have a metal workshop .i have changed the battery today but did not make any difference ,i ordered a code reader may be that will help ,i also have a xjs and a triumph stag which i built my self, so much easier to work on

Doug has ably suggested the most cost effective solution for the headlamp conversion. Otherwise it's a question of sourcing complete LHD units and swapping them. Reading that you've sent for a code reader, I hope you have bought one dedicated to Jaguar's software systems. Most cheap readers are generic devices and will happily give you the basics of emission controls but they quickly get stuck if you want more sophisticated answers, for instance about diagnosing your dashboard full of coloured lights!
Doug has predicted correctly what I will write next. It is almost certain you will need to have the car scanned either by a garage possessing full main dealer diagnostic kit or one with the Autologic Jaguar modules. Once you have the outputs from a good operator, you stand a chance of unravelling your car's raft of symptoms. Continuing to diagnose by replacing each component, one by one, risks costing a fortune, far more than the cost of a good diagnostics session. Mike.
