BPM - part no longer available

Postby JayP » Wed Jul 02, 2014 7:41 am

Hi everyone,

my first post - I did a search but couldn't find an answer. Please excuse me if I have missed something.

My 1999 XKR needs a BPM apparently (driver's window stopped doing auto-drop) but Jag no longer sell them. I have talked to 2 main dealers and David Manners - but they don't have any.

I'm a bit stuck! Does anyone have a LJB2500AE/047 available? Any other suggestions?

Cheers, Jason

Hi Jason,
Body processing modules (BPM) do fail and can be replaced with second hand units from specialist Jaguar breakers like Eurojag at Darlington. However, you haven't explained how or why the BPM was condemned. Forgive me for going back to basics but can we assume you have performed the window drop reset procedure and it fails to continue working? If that is the sole basis of the diagnosis, there might be another issue at stake. Window drop failures can be affected by the microswitches in the door latch mechanisms and poor earthing as well as battery condition. Typically, erratic operation of the window drop function is the first sign of a failing battery even though it will easily start the car. Hence, it pays to be certain about the diagnosis before replacing the BPM. You not only need to use a Jaguar specialist equipped with either main dealer level diagnostics or the Jaguar modules of the Autologic system and even then you still need an experienced operator to ensure you get the right diagnosis. That combination, which David Marks and XJK Garages can both supply would be the best insurance the problem will be solved first time. Otherwise, there's a risk the garage will simply replace component after component until there's nothing else left to change. Mike.

Thanks Mike for your prompt and detailed reply. I was recommended an auto electrician by another XK owner who has diagnosed this.

On some pondering, I have decided to also take the car to my local main dealer in Cornwall or Exeter to hook up to their diagnostic kit, instead of running around trying to source (as you wisely point out) something that may not be correct.

I will update when I know more. Thanks again..
