Hi All,
I have a 1999 XKR convertbile. All has been well with the top until i tried to open it yesterday. The result was me getting covered with oil from a point at the headlining/ courtesy light area. These have also filled up with oil which is now draining out into a container!
Obviously the top wont now open either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi.
Your hydraulic operated top latch is leaking. It is a fairly common fault. Most of the time it is the hoses leaking where they are connected to the latch.
To change the hoses you have to remove lots of the interior which make the repair expensive. It is not to difficult to do it yourself.
Do a google search for XK8 top leaking and you will find lots of information

Thanks for that.Has anyone in the club experience of doing the work themselves. Any known issues with carrying out the work would be greatly appreciated. Could anyone recommend the best supplier for parts. SNG Barratt offer a discount to members.

Replacing the latch cylinder or the pipe seals is fairly straightforward, if lengthy. Use plenty of plastic sheeting to protect the interior trim from drips and leaks during the work. When everything is back together, it will be necessary to operate the opening/closing procedure several times to bleed the system. Make sure you complete the full cycle each time without releasing the button part way through. The parts required are rather specialised so unless you are very lucky, the chances are that you will have to source them (at list price) from a main dealer or Jaguar approved supplier like SNG Barratt's. Mike.
