Voltage of Photo chromic door mirror

Postby Nik » Tue Aug 23, 2011 7:50 pm

Hi Guys ,
It's probably a silly question  but ........ can anyone tell me the operating voltage for the Photo-chromic door mirror :?: :?:
Just bought one for a project and would like to test the Photo-chromic darkening before fitting it to my car  ,
don't want to put 12v through it to find it's too high a voltage and damage the mirror ,

Thanks in advance ,

Nik

Hi Nik,
I have checked through a lot of wiring diagrams etc and can't come up with a definitive answer! Of the various feeds to the mirrors that are labelled, most are 12 volts for the motor operations but the mirror position reference signals are 1 volt and 8 volts for different planes of movement. Thus, it seems Jaguar had the option of using 1, 8 or 12 volts to feed the tint mechanism even without creating a unique voltage for it. Since, according to the wiring diagram, the tint wiring for the interior and exterior mirrors are linked together, why don't you see what voltage you have at the interior mirror? That should confirm the test voltage you will need for the door mirrors. Mike.

Thanks Mike for your troubles

I'll give it a go on Sunday plus I'll see what voltage (if any) I get at the terminal in the door mirror , my car wasn't originally fitted with photo chromic mirrors or powerfolds but it does have a photo chromic interior mirror so I'm hoping to get the door mirrors working as Jaguar intended ,

Thanks again ,

Hi Guy's ,
Thought I'd post the results of my Photo Chromic experiment ,
Swapped the mirror glasses over for Photo Chromic and hey presto , they work beautifully  :!:   ,
I'm like a dog with two tails  ,

All the best and thanks everyone for your help ,

:D Hi Nik,
That was easier than reading the wiring diagram. Beware, there is one downside to the fully automatic photochromic mirrors. In your mirrors at night, you can no longer make out the roof signs on police cars! :D Mike.
