XK8 XKR SRS Airbag Warning Light Coming On

My 2002 XKR has a fault with the airbag system in that the car can start fine with no warning lights, but drive over 50 miles and there are a series of short double illuminations of the Airbag warning light and thereafter the light comes on and stays on. Switch the car off and back on again and it's still there. Switch off and leave overnight and it usually clears. There is something in the handbook about obstruction or partial obstruction of the passenger sensors (passenger A post, B post and roof console) can cause the airbag warning light to illuminate after a period. THese are not obstructed in my car and the fault occurs both with and without a passenger.

Can anyone shed any light on this one?

Craig, I have also had this problem occuring for the last year or so. Started off intermittent, but is much more regular now, and I haven't got round to sorting it out.

Ont the AutoLogic diagnostic, it comes up as Drivers Head Restraint Module. (I assume the warning is the one in the dash in front of you, and not the light on the passenger side)

Yes that's correct it's the light on the main dash. I'll have to get it over to the dealers to check the codes, as I only have a basic OBD scanner so it can't read the SRS codes.

On many cars the light can be illuminated by poor contacts in the steering column. Remembering how often older cars used to suffer poor horn operation (from horn rings which moved with the steering wheel), it's probably surprising that more modern cars do not suffer similar issues with the airbag contacts which have to overcome the same challenge of transferring electrical signals and currents between moving parts. The DTC that came off the system for this was B2295. The dealer didn't know what that meant, so is awaiting a reply from Jaguar. However, after a bit of Googling it looks like it is Drivers Airbag Side - Open Circuit. So sounds like a connector resistance gone high.

Anyone got any tips for which connectors to check and clean up? Presumably anything on the drivers seat, but any other suggestions.

A very different system is used these days with so many switches on the wheel though, instead of a brass/copper ring and sprung contact they uses a clockspring and fixed connectors
basically a cirular cassette with ribbon cable inside

i have got the same problem with my 2003 xk8,it runs great for about 100ml then the airbag warning light comes on telling me its the drivers side ,i can switch it of let it cool for about ten minutes and hey presto it s gone off,can you keep me posted if you get a remedy ,i dont think is is a danger at this time but will keep an eye on it
