Retrofit of Satnav

Hi Folks

Ok, when i was looking to buy a XKR, I wanted satnav, but the right car just did not appear.

I know that the Jag satnav is a) out of date, and b) crap, compaired to the likes of Tomtom, which I have.

Anyway - I am looking into the feasibility of doing a retrofit!

Has anyone done this?

Does anyone know if any of the components need coding?

Ok, it will be expensive... especially when you inlcude the dash... given that I will need to swap the lot (will get cash back when selling my own I guess).

Seriously.... why bother?????

If you have a Tom-Tom, it'll get you anywhere you want to go. Upgrades are easy to come by, and you won't have to fork out an absolute fortune for retrofit dasboard displays, etc. Save your money for the many things your Jag WILL need done!

It would certainly be an expensive retrofit. I have the Jaguar system in my car. It's not the best and it means tha car loses the extra gauges in the centre which may be less high tech looking but are probably more in keeping with the looks of a Jaguar dash. Mike.

I agree with Mike , don't bother but ............... it is possible to fit BOTH a screen AND the three standard guages into the same panel , advantages are that you retain the classic look and have a modern upgradeable Sat Nav plus it will be a lot cheaper than sourcing all the components necessary to retrofit the genuine Jaguar Sat Nav (there are a lot of additional components needed for the retrofitting of a genuine Jaguar setup) if you want I can post a couple of photo's of a friend of mines XK with the 3 dial/sat nav setup ,

Yes Daves done a great job intergrating the display , now everybody who's interested in the screen might like to know it's not just satnav capable , Dave has a hard drive/computer in the the boot so it's capable of sat nav / mp3 / mp4/ TV/DVD/ engine diagnostics and other displays , pretty clever I thought ,

I have TT on my Vario3... and its great...hard if not impossible to beat!

I do like the look of the dash screen though, and being a gadget man... you know what its like...

Having received the new club mag this month, I was excited by the cover page and the "retrofit satnav" article.... Well... not sure where it went, as it was a story about swapping some parts with no mention of part numbers, coding or approach... big disssapointment and I dont think worthy of a front page starting role! OR does my copy have a few pages missing!!!?!?!?!

I am considering a car pc, but (not really a jag thing, is it?!!?) not happy about the screen surround. I have spare wood set so could easily make something up...
