Replacement Key Fobs

Postby peterbayleyuk977 » Thu Aug 14, 2025 11:39 am

Both key fobs that came with my newly-acquired XK are in a poor state.
If I buy one of the many replacement ones advertised, how do I programme it to my specific car?

I bought a Mercedes one years ago directly from them, which came pre-programmed, at a ridiculous price. I hope I don't have to do the same with the Jag one!
Anyone have experience of this?

Hi Peter, it depends a lot on what you mean by current fobs are in a "poor state". If they both still work with your car, then you can transfer the innards very easily to a new / cosmetically appealing case. These case only devices are very much cheaper than complete fobs, with the benefit of no programming required.

Incidentally, from a Forum perspective, the section you have posted this question to is primarily intended for technical questions about the website and / or Forum, not for the vehicles. For those, there are Sections for each Model and within each section, multiple sub-sections. Ideally, one of the Moderators will move this thread into the Modern XK Section for you.

Thanks for the movement of the post (my mistake - won't make it again) and the fob comment. Hadn't thought of just the case replacement. Thanks.
