Re: Convertible roof will not open
Hi Martin, is this a new problem, or have you experienced it before? Given that the roof should operate at up to 15 MPH, it is not necessary for the gear selector to be in Park / Neutral, unlike the earlier models, so gearbox position should not be an issue.
The most likely cause is the luggage separator in the boot. This must be in the correct position and the boot lid must be fully latched closed. If either is not in the correct situation, the roof will not operate. If you have had any large items of luggage in the boot, this can potentially dislodge the luggage separator, even minutely, meaning that the proximity switches don't clear the signal to operate.
Check the luggage separator is correctly positioned and try once again.

Re: Convertible roof will not open
Hi Jim,
Thanks for your prompt reply, it is a new problem and the first thing I tried was the luggage separator, which appears to be in the right position and I'm sure in the past a message is displayed if its not in the correct position.
Nothing at all happens when I press the switch, no window movement nothing , that's what lead me to check the fuses.

Re: Convertible roof will not open
Hi Martin, I am not sure about there being a message when the luggage separator is incorrectly positioned, but if memory serves, the rear windows should still go down, but no hood movement. The listed causes of hood inoperative are:
Convertible roof inoperative
No fuse supply
No earth
CAN failure
Battery voltage low
Faulty module
Check BCMB fuse F8 and all internal connections from fuse to FTCM pin. Check FTCM logic earth connections. Check FTCM CAN connections. Check FTCM diagnostics function with IDS tool. Verify battery voltage is normal. If all connections/battery good and diagnostics are available follow standard FTCM diagnostic procedure. If all connections/battery good and no diagnostics are available check
if lost communications DTC U0206-00 is set in BCM. Refer to the relevant workshop manual section.
REFER to: Communications Network (418-00 Module Communications Network, Diagnosis and Testing). If it is set and no communications with FTCM are available replace module.
These are as listed in the Workshop Manual, but most are beyond the scope of the DIY investigation, other than the fuse of course, which you have already checked.
I am assuming that you are attempting to operate the hood with the engine running.
The remainder of the procedure requires a Jaguar Specific code reader to determine if there are any fault codes (DTC) present, which then have follow-up processes.

Thanks for the advice Jim
Re: Convertible roof will not open
Hi again Martin, this is a long shot, but are your driver's and passenger door windows set for one-touch operation? Here I am assuming that you have not held the "open roof" button for more than a few seconds during your trials. If the front door windows have lost their one-touch functionality, then the roof does nothing for 10-seconds. The fix is to reset the one touch operation of the front door windows. After that, the roof is supposed to operate normally, unless of course it is something more serious as discussed above.
