Loose high centre brake light cluster

Hi folks,

Has anyone succeeded in re-sticking the adhesive pad that secures the cluster to the rear screen?

Remove the whole unit and thoroughly clean the glass and the mounting pad. Reglue the mounting pad back onto the glass and leave it alone for at least 24hrs. Unfortunately I can’t remember the adhesive I used but it was for bonding glass to plastics.

Good afternoon Jimbo,

Thank you for responding, I have done much as you suggest and will try again. The real issue is poor access to the area where the detached pad has to be re-glued, my XK8 has a boot as opposed to a hatch, the job is best tackled by a small flexible person with long strong fingers. At least so far no one is suggesting removing the rear screen.

Hi Ron, unless you are averse to paying a small fee, the guys at Autoglass should be able to sort this problem in a couple of minutes. They have the necessary cleaning agents and appropriate adhesives - same stuff as used to be capable of gluing the rear view mirror to the windscreen!
