ABS and Engine check light

Hi,
I have a 2003 4.2 XK8. Is it normal for the engine check light to come on just after the ABS light comes on. I do have an ABS problem code c1165 which is RH wheel sensor which i have ordered. My concern is the engine check light which wont go out but only have the one code for the abs. I only have a basic obdII which wont clear the codes.
Unfortunately these warning lights came on as i was on my way to the MOT station so had to cancel the mot. This means I cant drive the car to hopefully clear the warning lights once i have replaced the sensor. I have also fitted a new battery as i know how sensitive these cars are to voltage Any ideas?
Thanks
Steve

For some reason that I have yet to be able to find, Code C1165 (LH rear sensor ) and C1175 RH rear sensor) both light the ABS light and the MIL, whereas Codes C1235 and C1236, also for the two rear sensors, light only the ABS light! Possibly to do with those sensors informing the ECU module of the car's speed, but why some codes and not others?

Anyway, for your fault code Steve, both lights on is correct. If the faulty sensor is replaced, I recall the warning lights will go out by themselves, though maybe requiring a couple of runs (or 6?) - up to speed, stop, ignition off, same again. Of course, if the original fault turns out to be a short circuit or break in the wiring ..........!

Hopefully you're aware that the sensors for 4.0 X100s are not interchangeable with the sensors for the 4.2 models. Some ebay suppliers don't know that as the two versions look the same but are totally different electrically.

Thanks for your reply. I was concerned about the engine management light because you would think the two systems were not related. The sensor i have ordered is from Britparts and specifically says 2003 to 2005 so hopefully is the right one. When i checked the one on the car it was open circuit with no change when you spin the wheel. I hope I can clear the faults on my drive as the car has no mot and it wont pass with those lights on.
