Alternator Removal - 1996 XK8

I'm trying to remove the alternator on my 1996 XK8 and it's proving a bit of a puzzle.

Removal of the air filter box gives access from above to undo the bolts - but there is not enough room to remove the alternator.

From below - I've removed the oil filter and alternator mounting bracket - but there isn't sufficient room to get it out that way either.

Is there a technique to remove the alternator? (other than paying your dealer )

The additional step in Jaguar's method is to remove the fan and motor assembly from radiator. This should allow the alternator to be moved forwards, then turned through 90 degs and pulled out upwards between the engine and radiator.

When refitting, its also recommended that the spacer bush in the mounting bracket is eased slightly rearwards. I'd presume that this increases clearance until the through bolt is tightened and puts the bush back.

Removing the fan pack gives plenty of room to swap the alternator - and whilst I'm there I'll swap the serpentine belt

Hopefully I'll get the car in for an MOT soon after many years off the road
