xkrs rear centre brake light

Postby IAN@9 » Tue Mar 03, 2020 3:19 pm

Hi, I've recently purchased a 2011 xkrs from Grange Jaguar on 30/12/19. It's rear centre brake light was not working and apparently the LED pack is part of the carbon fibre rear wing!! Grange are looking into it to obviously try a cheaper solution (rear wing £3500) Has anybody got any experiance of this fault and found a satisfactory repair. Thanks

Appreciate that this post is quite old now, but did you ever get a resolution to the high level brake light not working? Another XKR-S owner is now experiencing the same issue and is struggling with how to access the lamp itself to attempt a replacement. Incidentally, the wing is now priced at £6k, and even I have an issue in believing that Jaguar designed the rear wing with a non-serviceable brake light installed!

I have successfully replaced a dead LED from a high level brake light from a Nissan Navara some years ago BUT this was relatively easy because the unit was removed from the car and was quite easily dismantled giving access to a number of surface mount LEDs on a small pcb. So the two main obstacles are removing the unit and disassembling it. The third issue is identifying the correct colour temperature of the LEDs so that the replacement, if it can be sourced, is identical to the original. In summary - it ain't simple!!

Hi Mike, thanks for updating this post.

In the end, the repair was simple on the XKR-S, but initially it looked anything but. I will probably use the story and ultimate fix as an article in my Modern XK column, so you can read about it there in the not too distant future.
