Headlamp washer xk8

Postby Bootneck » Mon Jan 20, 2020 11:32 am

Hi
Just noticed that one of my headlamp washers doesn’t go back to its correct position following the washing of the windscreen. As I’m new to the xk8 can someone tell me how the headlamp washer works and any possible fixes.
Thanks in advance, mike

It sounds like you will need to remove the washer jet to examine it for dirt or damage. To access it, first you will need to remove the headlamp by moving aside the wheel arch liner and releasing the two bolts and one nut holding the lamp. After extracting the electrical connector, the lamp can be extracted and the washer pump removed from the lamp by squeezing its two tangs. Mike.

It works by the water pressure from the pump forcing the washer jet to protrude ahead of the lamp against a return spring and then squirt it with water. Once the pressures comes off it is returned to its resting position by the pressure of the spring.
