Upgrading Dashboard Lighting

Postby Monkeyhanger » Wed Aug 07, 2019 12:37 pm

Technical information to upgrade to LED's from the original abysmally dull original bulbs in the Dashboard Panel of my XKR Convertable is as rare as rocking horse tish. After many very frustrating hours spent getting nowhere, I eventually struck gold twice. The first strike was discovering a video detailing the job which was helpful to a point (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sh5AsKND3pM). The originator upgraded all dash bulbs with White LED's even though the video shows blue numerals on the improved dials. However, further discoveries revealed that it was unwise to use white LED's behind coloured filters ie behind the turn indicators, main beam and message panel where 3 green and 1 blue should be more satisfactory (T5's). A bright white LED behind the "Main Beam" indicator could be quite distracting if lit for any length of time. So, the blue or a warm white may be more appropriate here. The other dial lighting (T10's) is apparently OK in bright white. The second Gold strike was in finding a Company called Classic Car LED's Ltd (http://www.classiccarleds.co.uk) and especially Duncan Rickards (himself a Jaguar owner) whose technical knowledge and extremely pleasant personal service resolved all my trials and tribulations despite the piddling little order. Anyone requiring assistance and guidance would be well recommended to talk to him.
