Light indicator on gearlever

On a 1996 XK8 I have all the lights illuminated in turn on the indicator top plate when moving the gear lever from Park to Drive which is quite normal but in the Drive position the light does NOT illuminate what is the cause and how is that fixed please.

Suspect a slight misalignment that will require removal of the plate to gain access.

The general illumination of the J Gate is from two small bulbs with blue plastic caps. The selector positions are lit by LEDs, one per position. Both bulbs and LEDs are soldered to the circuit board within the J Gate.
