External boot release not working

Any ideas??
My 2004 convertible external boot/trunk release button has stopped working. The key still unlocks the boot and the internal button still works. I've checked out the wiring and all seems OK. I see from the wiring diagram that the external release is wired direct to the Security & Locking Control Module (SLCM) whereas the internal release is routed through the Body Processor Module. The SLCM should be holding a +ve voltage until it gets gets grounded momentarily when the button is pressed which should activate the boot release solenoid. My module seems to have no voltage on the output pin. Everything else that uses the SLCM seems to work ok so I've tried disconnecting the battery (often fixes strange problems!) and even left it for a couple of days to get rid of any residual current. No luck! Is there any other way of resetting the SLCM, could it be reprogrammed or is it likely to be faulty and needs replacing (more likely live with the non-functioning boot release having seen the price of replacements!)?

New security & locking control modules are no longer available from Jaguar. When the model was current, some functions of the slcm were programmable by dealers. Whether the boot release was one of those functions, I don't know. Hence, it might be worth a conversation with a knowledgeable dealer. The first problem will be finding a dealer with staff who still remember the XK8! Mike.

Hi Dave,
Have you checked the actual external release micro switch,I checked the Part No(LNC6242AC)and it is the same as the one's on the XJ8 which have been known to fail.
My own one never worked when I got the car but checking for continuity through the switch I found out it was broken micro switch which was causing the problem.
Good luck anyway and hope you find the problem.
Andy :)

The switch and wiring check out ok but there's no voltage coming off the SLCM. Looks like I'll have to live with opening it from the inside - like the early models!! I just hope this isn't the start of the SLCM failing altogether - even "pre-owned" ones look quite expensive. Or just possibly I could wire the external switch into the Body Processor Module like the internal one is - back to the wiring diagram to see what other issues that might cause!

Thanks for your suggestions.

Dave

Update.
So, it seems that there is a voltage coming off the SLCM but not as much as I was expecting! Further dismantling with a view to wiring the external release into the Body Processing Module revealed a broken wire in thew loom from the boot to the boot lid! The problem seems to be that with the boot open, when I was testing the circuit, it was making a connection, but with the boot closed when the wire is much more bent, it wasn't!! Wire now repaired and the external release is working again - phew!!
