X100 XKR side/rear lights coming on.

A bit like a Stephen King book this one. I've had my 2000 XKR sitting out the winter with a smart charger attached as usual (locked & alarm set). Although I haven't been near it I noticed the other day that the lights were on under the cover. Thinking some damp had got into a relay I took it for a drive (lights working normally). When I got back & locked it with the fob, after a couple of minutes the side/tail lights started flashing on & off at various speeds. I unlocked it & it seemed to stop. I sneaked back after a few minutes and it was doing it again. I've now disconnected the battery which by the way is fully charged at 12.7v. Anybody had a similar problem & if so what was the cause please. Best wishes Steve

Hi Steve,
Please feel free to dismiss this suggestion out of hand but for what it's worth.... My house alarm kept going off randomly. Everything checked out electrically but the fault was found to be a small spider that has taken up residence in a motion sensor.
Once removed the house alarm resumed normal silent service. .....You have had your vehicle laid up for the winter....Sometimes the most unlikely happens!
Good luck with finding your gremlin, whatever the cause.

Hello Steve,
This isn't going to help... Some years ago I had an XJ40 Daimler which went through a phase a sounding the alarm randomly. Traced fault to... a moth, fluttering about in front of the motion sensor.
Sorry guys.

Thanks Doug. I wouldn't discount anything where "modern" cars are concerned. I just hope it's not a mouse with an appetite for wiring. all the best Steve

A Jaguar diagnostics session would probably be needed to be sure but I'd be suspicious about the rechargeable battery hidden inside the alarm sounder. The battery has a finite life determined by the number of recharging cycles it undergoes. Try disconnecting the sounder but leaving the main battery connected to see if it makes a difference. The rechargeable battery is not replaceable unless you are able to open the sounder without damaging it and you are handy with a soldering iron. Alternatively, risk buying a second hand sounder and substitute the original unit. Mike.
