Hot tips from the top!

Thanks for that Mike. Just the sort of question to put in a Jaguar quiz!

There's a brand new key fob with a very low start price on Ebay now

ITEM NUMBER 330675810822 ,

Jaguar Remote locking fob for XJ8 1997-2003 & XK8 cars 1996-2006

Part number LJE2610-BB

Brand new part, opened but never used. Comes with packaging.

Hope this helps ,

As I have only one key fob(other one lost by prev owner), I ordered one of these and have just gone through the program procedure. When I get to the bit where I have to press any button on the fob once, nothing happens and the red light does not flash!
I have checked the nee fob and it has a battery already in.

My old fob has been unaffected and works ok.

Thanks Bill

The fob might be new but that doesn't rule out the possibility of its battery being time expired. I'd try a brand new fob battery before concluding that the new fob is faulty (providing it is marked with the correct frequency). Mike.

Just a thought

Are you using the correct re-setting sequence?

As the XK8 & XJ8 instructions are different

Nik,
you may have a small booklet with your car documents headed 'security system'. The batteries are noted in there. (took me some time to find it). For my 1996 XK8 they are noted as above =
2 x CR2016. I only have one fob working so handy to have the above to re programme.

I have been in contact with supplier to check that I was following the correct procedure. I also. Pointed out the part no. for my existing fob is LJA2610BA which is slightly diferant to the one they quote for XK8 as LJE etc.

They confirm this will not work on the XK8 and I need an LJA which cost £over £130.

As I only wanted it as a spare fob and I have a spare key I have accepted a refund and return.

It would have been useful to have a spare fob, but at leat with a spare key I am covered in case of loss in which I would have to cough up the £130.

Hi painter, thanks for replying to Nik with this information.
Sadly, I need to tell you that Nik has unexpectantly passed away last Sunday 27 Jan.
There is a special thread in the XK8 FORUM section of this BB.
Just wanted to let you know.

Hello Karl,
very sad news. Unfortunately I never met Nik but I know he provided substantial input to these forums and will be badly missed.

Hello everybody,
I have two key fobs for my car and both used to work OK.
1 x LJA 2610 BB
1 x LJA 2610 BA.

Over time "BA" started to work intermtently. I have put new batteries in "BA" and carried out the programming sequence by Allan.
Both will programme in correctly, but the car will only work with the one programmed in last, whether that be "BA" or "BB".

What am I doing wrong, or have I missed a step?

Doug, can you just clarify: are you going through the full programming procedure for each fob?

If you do, only the last key will be programmed and any previous key programmed will no longer work.
So, every time you program a fob, make sure you have all fobs at hand and when you have programmed the first fob, ie when you have seen the security light located near the gear lever flash (and usually also heard a beep) just press a button of the second fob which should again flash + beep to acknowledge the fob is programmed.

You should now have two programmed key fobs.
If you would have three fobs, you just do the same as with the second fob.

Hope this helps - let us know if it worked.

Hello Grand Tourer et al.

I have had another go using GT's slightly different procedure and now have two working key fobs.

Thank you for your help.

Still only one key fob working. I don't appear to have a security light near the 'J' gate, only the
sport mode light/button. (Is this it?) Went through the programme but no beeps, no lights. Mine is an early 1996 model, no after mods.

Hello Painter.

For the chime, have the windows open, a sounder outside the cabin is used.

The LED you're looking for is between the P for Park on the gear selector and the torx headed bolt that can be removed to override the gear lever locking solenoid.

Hope this helps.
