X150 (2014) Connector next to Battery - What is it?

Hello All,

Recently bought an X150 (2014) Signature and changed the battery - JEC article was extremely useful - but, whilst changing the battery, I noticed a White Connector that was hanging between the battery and the SatNav Unit that was not connected to anything ... cannot see where it might fit but should it be connected to something? Took a photo as per below:

Perhaps it should remain disconnected (or not used)?

That is a connector used with the Transit Relay; that is a device fitted at the factory to allow the car to be delivered to the dealer without the battery being discharged while the car is left standing around. It isolates all those circuits that remain active after an in-service car is left locked up. The dealer removes it prior to selling the car and that connector can be safely ignored or taped up if it looks untidy to you

Having 'just' bought the car, there are a few gremlins that I am trying to resolve ... finding that some of them are Operator Error through not knowing 'how' stuff works - Front Parking Sensors as an example: didn't know that they did not switch on automatically at low speed, but had to be manually switched on via the button above the rear-view mirror.

I also have an 'infotainment' screen message telling me that my battery voltage is 'low' and it will shut-down in 3 minutes ... then switched itself 'off' after circa 20 seconds! I changed the battery yesterday (great JEC article explaining how) but still get the same screen message after a few minutes, but system now shuts down after the circa 3 advertised minutes ... would have not expected to see that low battery voltage message after fitting a new 100Ah battery (fully charged prior to fit). A problem elsewhere?

Anyway, thank you again for clarifying the purpose of the stray connector.

Thanks for the feedback on the magazine article, good to hear it has proved of value.

Also I stand in awe at some of the knowledge of the contributors on this forum - thanks for educating me Astromorg!

Parking sensors - you are correct if pulling forward they will need to be deployed by pushing the button. If you reverse then both front and rear parking sensors are automatically deployed.

Warnings on battery - if you have a system running eg using the radio or phone through the car and the ignition is off JLR products of this era and beyond will warn you that they will be shut down in 3 minutes. It's about preserving the battery life so as such it is not a fault.
