Drivers door will not shut!

Postby david.stevens666 » Fri Jan 08, 2021 3:56 pm

I have a 2014 X150 coupe, when the temperature freezes -2+ , once opened the drivers door will not close and lock for at least 5 minutes. I have to hold on to the arm rest to keep the door closed. Any ideas please?

Hi David, this sounds like a sticky mechanism that needs to heat up before it releases and allows the door latch to operate. Start with the simple checks like the physical door latch itself. Once unlocked and the door opened, and before getting in, check that the spring loaded latch on the door is free to move as it should. If sticky, a little touch of lubricant / WD40 might cure the trick.

Thanks Jim, much appreciated. I will try this. I have used WD40 previously to no avail. Regards

Does the window drop or is it frozen and some rubber silicone on all the apertures in the winter is a good idea.

Understear is when you hit the wall with the front of the car, and oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car horsepower is how fast you hit the wall, torque is how far you take the wall with you.
