2001 XKR Auto Wipers

Now I've got my XKR out of its extended slumber I've started tackling the snag list. One of them is that the auto wipers ......well.........don't!
No issue with the wipers on the normal settings but I can't provoke the automatic setting to work
Any ideas?

I know it's of no consolation but I think this is the first time since the mid nineties anyone has posted a query about the auto wipers. They have been reliable since an original wiring mod stopped batteries draining whilst the cars were parked. Methinks your trusty multimeter will have to work overtime again! :) Mike.
