Rear Parking Sensor Battle

If anyone has to replace one of these (mine was right outer), I have a couple of tips that may help. Because the fixing is a bayonet/spring affair, you have to be able to rotate the sensor in it's collar to remove it. The problem is that after 13 years, a lot of fine dirt finds it's way into the housing making rotation of the sensor difficult. I cut some strips from an aluminium drinks can to insert between sensor and collar to try to dislodge the dust and paint. Remove these after use! A plastic bottle top was used on the outer face of the collar so that I could push evenly to enable the bayonet to be released. You may also need to clear the fault code to ensure correct operation of the system - I did on my car, but not sure why I had to do that. I also sprayed the sensor pins with a moisture repellent to help connector fitting. It is easier to fit the connector before replacing the sensor on the bumper.

It was my right hand, between the base of my forefinger and my thumb, where I was gripping the collar that was sore!
