Drivers door window stuck

Postby neilpsmith » Mon Sep 26, 2016 4:18 pm

Please advise. The driver's door window of my 2004 XK8 coupe is stuck in the up position and will not drop (manually or automatically) to allow the door to close fully. The car will not lock for this reason. The driver's door control pack will not operate either window, (or the power mirrors) although the passenger door window control works perfectly. The driver's window memory has been playing up recently and has needed to be reset several times. The battery is new.

Is there a fuse which controls only the driver's switch pack, or am I into a visit to my local specialist for a diagnostic review?
Help, please.
Thanks
Neil Smith

Had my 02 plater do this once, did the usual trick of disconnecting the battery... leave boot and door open before you do it!, then go and have a cup of tea....

Come back twenty minutes later, reconnect battery, DON'T dither when you make the connection do it firmly and hopefully it will be sorted. Sometimes the cars seem to get their knickers in a twist and do oddball electrical things :-)

Also worth checking when the new battery was fitted that it has had the terminal clamps tightened properly as it could be a bad main connection. A couple of members have reported just that on here before.

If not, it is probably a door panel off job to check the mechanism and module....

Sound advice from PTR. Likely fuses can be found in the driver's side fuse box on the end of the dash. Don't forget to check the wiring for damage if you have to dig deeper. Mike.

Hi.
We have had reports about poor contact in the circular connector between the body and the door. Located between the door hinges. Easy to open, inspect and clean.

Thanks to everybody. Leaving the car in the garage in disgrace for 48hrs seems to have made the window come back to life, although the window memory is lost (again)!

I will follow up your suggestions about battery contact, fuses and circular connector though. Obviously something is not quite right.

Thanks again for your help.

I can feel a John Cleese moment coming on ! (Austin 1100 estate, anyone !)

Good news though its working again, when it gave up was it a wet and rainy day? could have dried out in the garage, if so, I would be looking for plug connection problems in the door possibly.
